Riders for the Cure Fundraiser to Benefit M. D. Anderson Study

Posted by admin

On Tuesday, March 2, Riders for the Cure will participate in the Fish City Grill First Tuesday Charity Campaign. Everyone is invited to visit the Pearland Town Center location at 11200 Broadway, Suite 380, Pearland, Texas, 77584, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., as Riders for the Cure will receive 15% of the day’s sales. Members of Riders for the Cure will be available all day to share information about its mission and to educate the community about club efforts.

Funds raised by Riders for the Cure will be donated to M. D. Anderson to help fund the largest genetic study ever conducted, which looks at inherited brain tumors and the causes and risk factors of primary adult and pediatric brain tumors known as gliomas. The worldwide study, called the GLIOGENE Project, is led by Melissa Bondy, Ph.D., professor in Epidemiology and director of the Childhood Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Center.

Earlier this month, Riders for the Cure presented a check for $10,000 to Laura Worth, M.D., Ph.D., medical director in Pediatric Stem Cell Therapy.

Riders for the Cure to Present $10,000 Check Feb. 18

Posted by admin

Riders for the Cure will present a check for $10,000 to Laura Worth, M.D., Ph.D., medical director in Pediatric Stem Cell Therapy, Thursday, Feb. 18, at 1:30 p.m., in front of the Ambulatory Clinic Building following the general membership meeting. All employees are welcome to attend.

The club’s 2009 donation efforts were awarded to Worth, as the principal investigator on the Stem Cell Transplant Exercise Protocol. The $10,000 donation will help fund the purchase of child-friendly exercise equipment for patients in the study (such as dance mats, Nintendo Wii video game systems and stationary bicycles that integrate with video games) that can remain in patients’ rooms during their isolation and raise their spirits while promoting physical activity. In this way, exercise-disguised as play time-will enrich the lives of sick children who cannot go outside or see friends.

Members of Riders for the Cure will share information about its mission and to educate the community about club efforts.

Sam’s Jam II this Saturday!

Posted by admin

I wanted to remind you that the 2nd annual Sam’s Jam charity Motorcycle ride is this Saturday, October 10th.

Registration starts at 9am and we will be leaving Pressler street behind M. D. Anderson at 10:30am for a destination at West of the Brazos.

This ride was started last year in Memory of my father, Dr. Samuel Hassenbusch, as way of using his passion for motorcycling to make a difference in Cancer here at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. He was a neurosurgeon who succumbed to the disease that he spent his career treating. His passion for helping people and motorcycles will live on this Saturday as the M. D. Anderson Motorcycle group, Riders for the Cure, will host an escorted ride to raise money for cancer research.

The weather will be perfect for a motorcycle ride this Saturday with 70 degree temperatures! I encourage everyone to join us for this ride that will bring great people together for a distinguished cause. The funds from this year’s ride will be used to help enhance the patient experience in the Children’s Hospital here at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Along with your donation of $20 to M. D. Anderson, you will also receive some of the famous Jim Hudgen’s BBQ at the destination! There will be door prizes, a silent auction,  and vendors along with two bands and a DJ to keep the afternoon going.

All Motorcycles: Please enter via entrance # 7, off of Holcombe Blvd. This will take you towards registration (on your right). Once checked-in / registered, you’ll be directed to line up on Pressler facing East. There is a map attached!

Even if you are unable to ride, please join us at noon at West of the Brazos.
