RFTC will participate in the Snowdrop Foundation ride to Texas Children’s Hospital sponsored by Republic Harley-Davidson on Saturday, February 28.  See our Meetup page for more information.

From Republic H-D:

Republic Harley-Davidson is proud to sponsor a police escorted motorcycle ride for the Snowdrops Foundation Texas Children’s Cancer Center at Texas Children’s Hospital on Saturday, February 28th, 2009, to bring an assortment of Harley-Davidson collectibles and apparel to the children and facility.  The gracious associates of Republic Harley-Davidson donated in excess of $3000.00 for these items that will bring pleasure to the patients and their siblings.  In addition, Harley-Davidson toys, books, and furnishings will be donated for the three patients play areas and libraries.

Donations for the SNOWDROP’S TWO WHEELS for TEXAS CHILDRENS cycle procession will be accepted at the dealership prior to take off.  This will be a very exciting ride with tremendous benefits to not only the children and their families but especially for all participating riders.  Enhancing the lives of these children and to see their faces when hundreds of enthusiasts with a Police Escort come riding up to their doorstep will create a feeling for us all within itself.

Ridin’ for the Rose 2009 Announcement

Posted by browning

This is a major ride in which a large portion of the proceeds benefit brain cancer research at M. D. Anderson.  We lead this ride each year and hope for another strong turnout.  See the announcement below from Chuck Akers:

Greetings Riders and friends of the Rose!

I hope everyone had a terrific and safe holiday season and that you are opening the New Year with great optimism and joy! With the New Year comes the announcement of Ridin’ for the Rose 2009. This is our 5th year to raise money for brain cancer initiatives at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Memorial Hermann Children’s hospital, so we want to make it extra special!!

This year’s ride will be held on Saturday, May 2nd departing from Stubbs Harley-Davidson on Telephone Road at Loop 610 south!! The ride departs at high noon for an after-party and BLUES JAM at Pelican Junction.

This year we wanted to focus on providing great entertainment, so we’re bringing in not one, but TWO of the hottest rock/blues acts in the business and biker favorites - Mean Gene Kelton and the Die Hards and Rick Lee & the Night Owls. These bands fill the house everywhere they go!! Each band is booked to play for 4 hours, so the afternoon will be jamming!

And just confirmed, our great friend Rocky McCullough and his team at Goodson Auto will again be our headline sponsor!! Hats off to Rocky, who will be joining us on the ride!!

We’re working on some other new things for this year too, so keep an eye on your inbox or check out the website at www.ridinfortherose.com.

And as always, your grass roots help in promoting the ride is most important. Please pass this e-mail along to your riding family and invite them to attend!!!!

PLEASE MAKE PLANS NOW TO RIDE WITH US FOR THE ROSE!

Thanks - hope to see you May 2nd!

Sam’s Jam Event Benefits Children’s Cancer Hospital

Posted by admin

Riders for the Cure, the official employee motorcycle riders’ group, recently presented $12,000 to the Children’s Cancer Hospital at M. D. Anderson.

Motorcycle group members handed over the check to Eugenie Kleinerman, M.D., division head for Pediatrics, during a Dec. 4 ceremony in Kim’s Place. The funds, which were raised by this year’s Sam’s Jam motorcycle ride, will be directed toward research to lessen the side effects of cancer treatments in children.

Patrick Browning, J.D., clinical business manager in the Cancer Prevention Center (and Riders for the Cure president), Jason Hassenbusch, PRS Administrative Services, Linda Dunker, office manager, Stem Cell Transplantation (and Riders for the Cure vice-president) and other riders from the nonprofit group also were at the presentation.

The ride, which was Oct. 18, is named in memory of Samuel Hassenbusch, M.D., Ph.D., who was a professor in Neurosurgery and medical director of the Physicians Referral Service here and an avid motorcycle rider and enthusiast. More than 130 bikes carrying 200 participants rode from the Houston Main Building to West of the Brazos in Damon, TX.

Photos of the ride have been posted under the image gallery.

Saturday’s event raised nearly $6,000 to benefit M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.  Despite a full riding calendar for that date, we had 138 bikes and 201 riders participate, and the ride went off perfectly.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the event to help make it a success.

We are tentatively scheduling Sam’s Jam II for Saturday, October 10, 2009.
